Changing Addresses
It has been a little time since I added more on this blog. It has been busy-still! My father-in-law passed away July 19th. It was hard and painful for him in the last stages of cancer. What was sweet was happened that last day. Twelve of his grandchildren were surrounding his bed and his wife of over 50 years was holding his hand. Some of the children (from teens to twenties) prayed for him. In a peaceful, quiet silence, he said “Hi momma.” His wife asked him if he was talking to her. He said no. She asked if he was talking to her momma or his momma. He said that they were both there. Painfully, she told him to go on, it was time.
It is good to see family overlook some differences and come together on times like these. Although there were sibling squabbles before, they are overlooked, at least for the time being. He had a full military funeral, as he was a disabled veteran from the Korean War. It was sweet to see the flag folded and given to my husband’s mother and for taps to be played. One of my sweetie’s friends had the best encouragement. It made him smile more than I’d seen him smile when he was thinking about his father. “He’s not gone,” she wrote, “He just changed addresses!”
