New Family Tradition
Today I had two precious little girls (ages 18 months and 3 years old) at my house for the first annual tradition of baking Christmas cookies at Gramma’s house.
The three year old was extremely precious as she helped to do the cut outs (in the middle of the rolled out dough. Often while she was decorating, she would take a cookie cutter and try to “remake” the cookie. She made two very special candy cane cookies for Papaw and Gramma. For the first time ever she called me “Gramma”...prior to this, and probably for sometime to come, she always called me “Jayme”. Holding the colored sugar shaker over the cookies became her responsibility. She expertly took the shaker and held it upside down for as long as she could before mom or gramma could gently turn it over, saying “that’s just right sweetie”.
The little one was also very precious. She had more fun picking at the dough, adding finger marks to the freshly cut out cookies and seeing how quickly she could find her hand in the colored icing. I have the sweetest picture of her with a small round cookie. She had licked off the icing and nibbled and crumbled it to pieces in front of her. She was also grinning ear to ear; she was having such a good time as she made it to the top of the table (again).
I do hope that mom can get the icing off of their pretty pink outfits-that now have lovely spots of red, green, blue and yellow on them. There was also some left over spots on little cheeks and little hands that may take extra rubbing to get off.
After about an hour, which is really good when trying to hold a child’s attention, they searched and found the box of toys kept just for little hands. The important thing is that they had fun, and mom actually was able to relax for a short while.

The Lord is so sweet to me. Sometimes it hurts that I didn’t have biological kids of my own. If I had though, we would not be able to be part of the lives of these little girls, their brother or their parents. Just another time that He shows me again a touch of His love for me.
